Beinn Challum, 5th March 2016

The beginning of March brought a fine area of high pressure to Scotland and I had a free weekend, so the call was put out and Toezi and JJ responded, but time was limited, so we knew we had to do something fairly close to home to be back in time for early evening.

I had the boys come to mine to switch cars and for a nice breakfast of bacon rolls and we were on the road for around 0830.

On the road up, we could see that it was going to be a stunner of a day, with glossy snow down to about 500m.

We started at 10am after our usual faffs, and Cruach Ardrain looked stunning in the morning light.

As we climbed, we followed the fence posts, and the map and the views started to become ever more amazing. Here's Ben Lui from just under the snowline:

About 500m up, it was crampon time and the snow was nice and crisp underfoot. Jim was in his element.

Wee Jim, loving it
Toezi wasn't having such a bad time either:

We stopped for a roll about 1230 and headed on for the summit. It wasn't windy at all, but it was nice and cold. Here's the view along the shoulder to the summit.

We hit the summit at 1315 and stopped for quite a while to take in the views in all directions. It really was a stunner of a day.

The trip down was nice too, we got to do some sliding on the snow and play with the axes. It was a very busy day on the hill as well.

We made it back to the car at 1530, with plenty of time to get home and head out for beers with Aldo.
