I'm getting married in a fortnight and as part of the ritual, I had to vacate our home so that my future wife could have her Hen Party. Toezi managed to pull a few strings and we agreed to head east, to the Angus Glens to climb Dreish and Mayar.
Paul picked me up on Saturday at 3 and we headed for Kirriemuir to undertake a task involving one of Toezi's workmates. We headed into Glen Clova, and stopped at the hotel for some dinner. Not cheap, but fair enough. We were camping, so we asked the bar staff about locations - "you'll need to ask at the ranger station" came the stock answer. So we headed up there and there wasn't a soul around. We found a little out of the way spot to put the tent up just after dark, then sat in the shelter of the ranger station for a bit. The evening was wet, but not too cold.
We hit the hay and I woke a few times through the night, either too warm and then too cold. We were up just after 7 and awoke to a glorious blue sky morning. We had brekkie, and got a quick wash at the ranger station toilets, and we were on our way for 8:15am.
We followed the Corrie Fee path and made good progress through the forest. It started gaining a bit of height and we could see the end of the trees coming up. As we came up over the rise, we got our first glimpse of Corrie Fee in glorious sunshine.

As we got out of the forest, we both found our new favourite Scottish view:

What a place, and what a morning! We walked into the Corrie, then up the waterfall that's too small to see there.

It was a very steep climb in places and the snow and ice made for difficult going. There were a few hairy bits for sure!

The view back out the other side was something special too:

Once we were over the steep parts, we headed south towards the summit of Mayar. The top layer of snow was melting, but we tried crampons for a bit - not much use though, and then the snow was melted on the summit.
We hit the top of Mayar at 10:50am and the air was getting warm so we stripped off the heavy layers.
We stopped for a brief snack and took in the views but soon we were on our way again, heading east towards Driesh.
There was some up and down and a lot of snow but the going was good and the air was warm so it was a pleasant experience all round. We were careful of cornices:

We made the summit of Driesh at 12:10pm and remarked at the distance we could see - all the way to the east Neuk of Fife!

We headed back down the Shank of Drumfollow which was a bit on the slippy side with all the snow then into the forest again - which was also fairly slippy - I fell a couple of times.
Before we knew it we were back at the now very busy car park at 1:50pm.
What a cracking day!
