As the end of the year approaches, the usual suspects have found themselves with a free day! Arrangements were made and soon I was driving the boys up to Tyndrum where we had some tasty dinner at the Real Food Cafe and then making our way to Roybridge, for a night in the Grey Corries Bunkhouse. We decided against the tent really because we didn't know where we would be putting it up in the dark. We arrived at 2100 and headed to the bar which shut at 10, so it was back to the bunkhouse for a swift beer, then an early bed.
We were all up bright and early at 0700 and Big Toezi sorted us all out with a roll and bacon to set us up for the day. By 0750 we were in the car and on our way to Roughburn to start our walk. We kicked off at 0810 in dry and relatively warm conditions, with no wind.

This was the shortest day, so we knew we had about 6 hours of daylight, so starting in the dark was not a problem.
We started the walk up the forest track and then up to the gate by some newly cut-down foresty.
From there we started climbing the shoulder up and onto Meall Clachaig.

We had some great views to the north west where the sun was warming the hills.
As we hit 800m, the mist started to roll in and our views diminished. We hit the first of the three summits, put on our crampons and warmer gear and navigated very carefully to the summit. We made the summit of Beinn a Chaorainn at 1100.

From there, it was a very careful piece of navigation onto the third summit, making sure we avoided the cliffs off to our right which could have been dangerous.
We dropped to the north west towards Tom Mor and the cairn in mist. We never found the cairn but did drop out slightly further north than we had expected. No big deal however, because it lessened the slope on the ascent to Beinn Teallach. Just above 700m we were in mist again, and climbing up the shoulder towards the summit of Beinn Teallach,

We arrived on the summit at 1330 with very little wind but a spot of snow coming through the grey.

From the summit, it's a straight shot down to the edge of the forest. At about 600m we dropped out of cloud and managed to get our only sunshine of the day.

We made it down to the forest and crossed the river with dry feet all round. Then it was a short walk back along the forest track to the car. We arrived back at the car at 1515, then it was down the road for a McDonalds for the boys and coffee for the driver.
