Geal Charn, Monadliath, 8th November 2020

While I was away on holiday last week, I received a message from Big P, asking if we could squeeze in a Munro before I headed back to work. The answer was an emphatic "I'll check with the wife", and I did, and we had nothing planned, hurrah!

We both arranged to leave in our separate cars at 0700 and headed north up the A9, towards Dalwhinnie to find the A889 closed, so it was a small diversion up the A9 a bit further and off by Glentruim.

Big P had arrived a few minutes before me at Garva Bridge when I pulled up at 0935 and it didn't take long for us to pop our rucksacks on and make a start on Geal Charn.

It had been a clear run up weather wise, a bit cloudy and misty at times and varying temperatures especially over Drumochter.

But it was warm enough for a base layer and t-shirt so we pressed on up the muddy track and it stayed dry and overcast.

Meeting of the waters

We arrived at the point where the Allt Coire nan Dearcag meets Fèith Talagain and crossed it, then headed north east at 1045.

As we climbed the wind gathered some strength and the cloud came down to about 600m. The rain started too, so it was another layer on and some waterproofs and away we went.

The land started to flatten beneath us eventually, and we came across a few cairns in the mist, however, we knew the cairn was a big one, so we followed the track onwards, and we hit the summit at 1155.

We stopped to get out of the wind and have a bite to eat, and then it was a descent the same way we had come up.

We arrived back at the cars at 1345 and decided to have a coffee on the stove. We chatted to a nice lady from Aviemore who was bagging a Corbett with her dog, and then headed back down the road.
