Sgurr nan Coireachan and Sgurr Thuilm, 6th June 2021

After yet another period of Glasgow being under coronavirus restrictions, I found myself ready to get back to the hills. I checked with the usual troops and made arrangements with Paul to head to Glenfinnan to take on Sgurr Nan Coireachan and Sgurr Thuilm.

We're now in the habit of taking a lateral flow test the day before we go, so I was clear to pick Paul up at 0630 in Paisley, and with the bikes aboard, the wee Mazda headed up the A82 in good time.

We arrived at the NTS Car Park and paid our £3.50 at 0900 and we were on the bikes and off up Glen Finnan at 0915. The air was a bit cold, but warm enough for a t-shirt and it was dry. We biked up the glen, gaining height slowly until we came to Corryhully bothy where the going became a bit rougher and the hills a fair bit steeper.

The bikes were locked out of sight and we made the transition to hiking at 0945, stopping to chat to a nice chap who had a far nicer bike than the pair of us. Then it was off up the long slope of Sgurr a' Choire Riabhach. The path was a nice surprise, since that wasn't on the map.

On the way to Sgurr Nan Coireachan

The weather was decent, but the wind a little cold, so we stopped to add a layer just before the ascent of Sgurr Nan Coireachan. We pressed on, and hit the summit at 1155. Some lunch was had and some pictures taken, then the boy from earlier caught us up and we had a chat about solicitors.

We pressed on down the hill and along the wide ridge up and over a few little peaks just enjoying the view and being back out again.

We hit the summit of Sgurr Thuilm at 1350. The breeze had dropped and it was still and quiet.

The path down off of Sgurr Thuilm was great - we made it down to the road in about an hour. There was a bit of running involved! It felt great to be fit and be able to enjoy the mountains like that.

We got down to the main glen track and found a great wee spot for a swim.

From there it was quick walk to the bikes and then a very swift blast down the track to get back to the car park at Glenfinnan for 1530.

The journey home took a lot longer than expected due to some heavy traffic from Luss down to Balloch, so I wasn't home until 1945.

Here's the relive of the hills:
